1. The Canon extenders (Canon does not make "teleconverters") almost always work with third party telephoto lenses in the EF mount that are compatible with their own maker's TCs.¹ Such telephoto lenses tend to have enough clearance in the back of the lens for the Canon extender to fit.
Build Quality and Handling. Like the rest of Sony’s GM lens lineup, the Sony FE 2x Teleconverter is well-built with a magnesium-alloy barrel and metal lens mount. You might think that the teleconverter would be relatively hefty given the optical design which features 8 elements including one aspherical element, but it’s incredibly light at
I compared this extender on my Canon EF 70-200 USM F/2.8L IS to the new Canon EF 70-300mm F/4-5.6 USM IS lens. For sharpness wide open, the 70-300mm has the edge, but when stopped down to F8, the 70-200mm w/1.4 has the sharper picture.
I have been using the 1.4x extender with various models of the 70-200 f/2.8 along with other telephotos for 25 years. I love the 1.4x and hate the 2x. I have seen almost negligible change to an image with the 1.4x on an L lens and no difference in autofocus speed.

I would not even consider the 2x tel-con on any lens. I currently own the 1.4 II tel-con and can say it works very well on the ef 70-200mm f2.8L lenses. I am not sue but I don't think I had the version II extender when I had my original ef 70-200mm f2.8L zoom but I don't see why it would not work on it.
